NEW!   LOCAL WEATHER

8-4-08........MONDAY....... It's HOT OUTSIDE! ........ Moving into AUGUST is a transitional thing for us at the pier; FISHING is at the bottom of the ACTIVITY LEVEL! ........ I occasionally receive an e-mail asking for more frequent reports this time of year, but "DITTO" and a new TIDE REPORT is about all that needs to be said! ......... We are seeing some nice SHEEPSHEAD, POMPANO, a few keeper FLOUNDER, BLUEFISH, an occasional SPANISH MACKEREL, and even some small SEA MULLET (you know, "DITTO!"), but overall it's time to get your FALL FISHING GEAR ready; we only have a few more weeks of this SUMMER STUFF to deal with! .......... So come on down and enjoy the last days of summer without worrying about CATCHING TOO MANY FISH! ......... See you soon! ........ MIKE STANLEY ...........

 TODAY'S TIDES .............. HIGH AM  10:41 ........... LOW AM  4:35 ............. HIGH PM 10:59  .......... LOW PM 4:47  ............. WATER TEMP. 78*

FELIPE VASQUEZ (Goldsboro, NC)--- landed this nice 2 lb. SHEEPSHEAD! ......... 8-2-08

CAROLINE GRUBBS (Raleigh, NC)--- proud of her little BAR JACK! ....... 8-2-08

7-28-08........MONDAY....... It's getting a little better in the FISHING DEPARTMENT this weekend; we had a pretty good SUNDAY with SPANISH MACKEREL, BLUEFISH (on RED HEAD GOTCHA PLUGS and CUT BAIT), POMPANO, a few FLOUNDER, SHEEPSHEAD, and some small SPOTS! ........ the POMPANO are hitting SHRIMP, and SHEEPSHEAD are either SHRIMP or SAND FLEAS ........ the water temperature is moving up a bit with 82*; we are expecting a mid 80's air temperature, which is a whole lot cooler than INLAND! .......... Just moving along in the latter days of SUMMER; it's a nice time to come down and just enjoy what MOTHER NATURE has to offer! ........... (maybe you'll see a TARPON jump!) ....... See you soon! .......... MIKE STANLEY ............

 TODAY'S TIDES .............. HIGH AM  4:01 ........... LOW AM  10:05 ............. HIGH PM 4:57  .......... LOW PM 11:35  ............. WATER TEMP. 82*

7-23-08........WEDNESDAY....... The KING MACKEREL are prowling ; we picked up another one TUESDAY AFTERNOON; and the BLUEFISH and SPANISH are definitely around! ......... Congratulations to DANNY VIAR (Lynchburg, VA)--- with a 29 lb. 4 oz. KING MACKEREL! ......... The weather has been cooler here on the COAST; between a nice 10-15 mph SW wind and the cooler (82*) water, the inland is much hotter than we are experiencing! ........ Riding in the boat yesterday, I noticed a great amount of BAIT FISH and SHRIMP just boiling everywhere in the sounds and back waters of SHACKLEFORD BANKS; also, BOGUE SOUND was very alive with schools of SPOT MINNOWS and JUMPING MULLET MINNOWS--- indications of GOOD FALL FISHING! ........ So keep your eye on the pier; and remember, WE ARE PROBABLY the COOLEST place on the EAST COAST, so bring the family and enjoy the END OF SUMMER! ........ See you SOON! ......... MIKE STANLEY ...........

 TODAY'S TIDES .............. HIGH AM  11:59 ........... LOW AM  5:46 ............. HIGH PM 12:00  .......... LOW PM 6:04  ............. WATER TEMP. 82*

DANNY VIAR (Lynchburg, VA)--- shows off his 29 lb. 4 oz. KING MACKEREL caught yesterday afternoon! ......... 7-22-08 ........

7-20-08........SUNDAY....... It's looking like a good day to get back to fishing; we re-opened about 11:00 AM this morning, and the weather is just a bit squally, but not unbearable. ......... SKIP WATERS (WCTI TV-12 CHIEF METEOROLOGIST) said this morning that the brunt of rain and weather is offshore, and this will eliminate the chance of much needed rain in our area.  .......... So as the storm passes to our EAST, we will see some 25-30 mph winds, but not much else. .......... The PIER HOUSE will remain open today until 10:00 PM, and then we will be back on our normal 6 AM thru 2 AM on MONDAY! ......... Let's hope the FISHING will just take off like the WIND! ............ See you soon! .......... MIKE STANLEY .............

7-19-08........SATURDAY....... We're watching the impending TROPICAL DEPRESSION that will be rolling up the coast today and tomorrow; so far we have SUNNY SKIES and a light SE wind! ......... We have added a BIP LOCAL WEATHER STATION to our lineup; special thanks to RON BUTLER from [ www.eilivesurf.com ] for his help in bringing this helpful local weather information to our WEBSITE! ........... Just click on the NEW!  LOCAL WEATHER  icon and it will take you to our STATION!  .......... As for fishing, we are seeing a nice influx of BLUEFISH, with SPANISH MACKEREL, POMPANO, a few SPOTS, and we have 3 KING MACKEREL this week! ........ Congratulations to DANNY GLOVER (Emerald ISLE, NC)--- with 2 KINGS ....... 31lb. and 19 lb. 8 oz.! ........ Also, MICKEY PATEL (Pelletier, NC)--- 20 lb. 5 oz. KING MACKEREL ........ and SHERRILL JOANSON (Garner, NC)--- 3 lb. 13 oz. SPANISH MACKEREL! .......... The water is looking good today; we still have some nice clear water near the end, and muddy inshore water which is great for bottom dwellers! ......... We anticipate a very SQUALLY period from about 6:00 PM SATURDAY until SUNDAY EVENING; usually this type of coast-hugging storm is a "POWER WASH" and lawn sprinkler, so not much damage is expected. .......... STAY TUNED; we will give you an update as soon as possible! ....... We will probably shut down operations tonight about 10:00 PM, but we hope to re-open around 6:00 AM on SUNDAY MORNING (depending on the storm situation-call the pier house (252-354-2919) in the morning if you plan on coming early) ........ BE BACK SOON! ....... MIKE STANLEY ............
